Janet Goldstein, a local Montreal abstract artist, cannot recall when she hasn’t had an eye for design and colour. She could take the simplest pieces and create home decor with warmth and elegance. Janet has gone on to work in fashion, where her flare for style would be showcased in her clientele’s wardrobes and accessories. This propelled her into ultimately designing and creating jewellery. Eventually Janet’s love for colour and texture poured over onto her canvases. Her love for creating unique pieces for her clients and bringing life and love into their homes or offices gives Janet the greatest joy and satisfaction.
Janet is a self-taught artist, who fearlessly explores the fusion of acrylic paints alongside other mediums. She enriches her compositions with depth and texture using pastes, gels, pouring, resin, spray paints and physical elements, such as beads and metallics. Her canvases more often than not, transcend the flat plane, embracing a 3D concept that invites the viewer to explore further. Inspired by artistic luminaries such as Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko, Janet infuses her work with their revolutionary spirit, pushing boundaries and defying categorization. She considers herself a bit of a chameleon, always open for change and new ideas. Each piece is an emotional, spiritual and intellectual exploration, inviting her audiences to connect with her art on a personal level.
Janet’s art is a demonstration of emotions and ideas, free from conventional artistic constraints. Her creativity remains vibrant and alive, and she sees art everywhere. Music plays a huge role in her work, and helps her get in the zone once she’s immersed in the beats. She curated her first show, in 2018 entitled, “Expressions of Colour” at The Montreal Art Centre and was asked to be a part of Griffintown’s “Galerie Connexe” in Parc des Meubliers. She went on to showcase “Imperfections" at Galerie 203 in Old Montreal in 2020, and is currently working on a new collection. Janet will exhibit her new body of work at Galerie 203, on Greene Ave in Westmount, sometime this October.
